Celebrate another step forward to reforming CO sales and use taxes

Recently enacted legislation authorizes the Colorado Department of Revenue to issue a request for information for an electronic sales and use tax simplification system. Put forward by the Legislative Sales and Use Tax Simplification Task Force, HB18-1022 is intended to simplify administration around the state and local sales tax system and could be piloted on an elective basis. TaxOps Partner Judy Vorndran is an appointed member of the Task Force.

Among the requirements, the electronic sales and use tax simplification system must provide:

  • Accurate address location information for a retailer to determine the correct taxing jurisdiction
  • A single application process for both state and local sales tax licenses
  • A uniform sales and use tax remittance form
  • A single point of remittance for state and local sales and use tax and
  • A taxability or exemption matrix

Access to data for the purposes of auditing a taxpayer or revenue projection reconciliation must be available.

As a board member of Simplify Colorado Sales Tax and the Sales and Use Tax Force, Judy Vorndran has been proactively pushing hard for changes in sales and use tax that will benefit businesses. Join Judy and other members of this important initiative in celebrating the latest win--a DOR request for comment to simplify the convoluted and complex sales and use tax system in Colorado!
