The state of Connecticut is offering a sales tax holiday from August 18 through August 24, 2013, exempting the purchase of clothing and footwear costing less than $300 from Connecticut sales tax. The $300 price limit applies to the final sale price of the item after discounts and coupons. Sales tax is charged on items that sell for more than $300. The Department of Revenue for the state of Connecticut lists examples of clothing and footwear that are exempt during sales tax free week .The sales tax holiday does not cover several excluded items, including:
- Items designed for athletic activity;
- Jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas, watches, wallets and similar items; and
- Safety apparel articles of clothing.
