Connecticut Renews Sales Tax Holiday in Time for Back-to-School Shopping

The state of Connecticut is offering a sales tax holiday from August 18 through August 24, 2013, exempting the purchase of clothing and footwear costing less than $300 from Connecticut sales tax. The $300 price limit applies to the final sale price of the item after discounts and coupons. Sales tax is charged on items that sell for more than $300. The Department of Revenue for the state of Connecticut lists examples of clothing and footwear that are exempt during sales tax free week .

The sales tax holiday does not cover several excluded items, including:
  • Items designed for athletic activity;
  • Jewelry, handbags, luggage, umbrellas, watches, wallets and similar items; and
  • Safety apparel articles of clothing.
More detailed information on the sales tax holiday is available at IP 2012(12),  Annual One-Week Sales and Use Tax Exclusion for Clothing and Footwear Costing Less Than $300.
